Question Continues: Online or In-Person Classes for NDA?

As the Tritons continue online courses, the idea discussed and debated is whether the online or the hybrid is the better experience for the student body.

There are plenty of pros and cons for both options and, no doubt all agree, neither is perfect.

If the students got to choose, would they would prefer returning to a hybrid schedule when it’s safe to do so?.

This week NDA sent out an email asking how the students want to handle the rest of the fall semester, also assuming, of course, that it will be safe for us to return by the end of the semester.

Seth Baeten, NDA senior and proud supporter of the Online Tritonian, said both online and in-school options “have their benefits but something about waking up at 8:15 a.m. and Immediately getting to see my teacher’s face makes my day, which is why I prefer online.”

For the senior class this is the last opportunity to be a Triton and NDA senior Will Zellner said, “I’d like to do what we can to be in person. I want us to be safe, but I also want the chance to be in school for my senior year at NDA.”’

Younger students are also going for the online idea over the in-person hybrid model. Sophomore Michael McIntee said, “It’s a very hard decision, but online school is in our best interest. We learn just at well and our safety is not at risk–at least until the numbers begin to climb down.”

Even as a return possibility comes into discussion, the Tritons need the numbers to calm down in Wisconsin, specifically in Brown County.

The county has recently become a hot spot for COVID-19 with a continual spike of cases.

The Tritons have seen area schools play out both scenarios.  West Depere returned to in-person classes this week while the Green Bay public schools have not yet been in person this school year.

It will be interesting to see what route the Tritons will go.

All in all, the only thing we know is that the students and the staff’s safety and well being will be the top priority over every decision.
