Hannah Greisen is an NDA student-athlete who plays both volleyball and basketball, but recently had her seasons cut short.
Greisen tore her ACL and meniscus during her volleyball game against Manitowoc.
“It was sudden and unexpected because I take great care of my body, lifting/working out/eating healthy/etc. I just happened to land wrong on one foot,” Greisen said.
She is viewed as outgoing and friendly. “Her confidence and ability to make anything fun stands out to me,” said varsity basketball coach Eliza Campbell.
“There is no doubt we will miss her leadership, rebounding, defense, consistency and positive attitude,” said Sara Rohde, head girls basketball coach.
Estimates are that it will take her a full year to be back 100%. Greisen’s surgery is scheduled in a few weeks, and then she will be in a rehab stage until fully recovered.
The senior has attended NDA for all four years. She considered going to Luxemburg Casco where he older sister played sports but made the ultimate decision to stay.
“I have LOVED playing these sports at Notre Dame,” she said. “My teammates. . . are my lifeline.”
Her main sport is volleyball, and she says that no matter the team or coaching circumstances she loves the game.
Throughout her high school career she has known much success. The NDA girls basketball team has won three state championships in a row and are going for a fourth this season.
“Hannah brings a lot of the intangibles to our team,” said Coach Rohde.
The senior comes from a very athletic family. Her father, great grandfather, uncle and her cousin have all played in the NFL. Her siblings also play many sports. All together Greisen and her siblings have won five state championships.
Beyond high school Hannah wants to play collegiate-level sports. “I am talking to multiple colleges right now for volleyball,” she said.
As for her injury, Hannah says that to keep her spirits up she has been hanging out with friends as often as she can as well as focusing on her academics and extracurriculars.
Greisen’s advice for other student athletes is simple but powerful: “You can only control two things in life — your attitude and effort. Give it your all and always bring a positive energy.”
