Notre Dame Academy Serves Day is more than just a school event. It is an opportunity for students and staff to impact the community in a meaningful way. 

Students and staff get to choose where they go for half a day to help around Green Bay. 

Last year, my first year doing this, I went to a homeless shelter called NEW Community Shelter in downtown Green Bay, where I cleaned rooms and organized clothes. 

When I was doing this, I realized what some people have to go through, such as not having anything of their own and having to eat certain things at certain times. 

One of the organizers there told me there is a waiting list of people who need help and have nowhere to go because there aren’t enough rooms. This really spoke to me on a level of new understanding of problems that affect the less fortunate. 

NDA Serves is more than just “getting service hours.” It’s about gaining perspective and helping out organizations that have a common goal of helping people. 

I think NDA should do this more often, maybe like twice a year. This is a great way to aid new organizations that are struggling to get started. Having a friend with you makes it more exciting, and getting to experience new ways to help out was amazing, especially when you are first starting out doing service hours and are not really sure how it works.
