Senior captain Sydney Miles is working to grow the Dance Team, which is hosting tryouts this week on May 13-15.
“I hope to see the team continue to grow in both numbers of dancers and skills,” said Miles.
“Tryouts for the 2026-2027 season are this week May 13-15 from 4-6 p.m. in the Triton Center,” stated Miles.
The Dance Team has had smaller numbers the past few years and is working hard to grow the Future Tritons program and getting the word out to people.
“The hope is to grow the futures program to eventually have girls come all the way from elementary school to the varsity high school team,” said Miles.
Coach Miranda and a few dance-experienced guests, explained the captain, will make the calls as to who makes the team. No experience is needed to try out for the team.
Decisions are made right away after the tryouts.
For the days of the tryouts, the dancers will be tested by a number of things after stretching. There will be practice on turning and leaps, and each day will focus on a different dance combo for pom and jazz.
“I’d love for the NDA Dance Team to continue to qualify and compete at state and compete at the national level,” explained Miles. “This year we have quite a few new dancers interested and we’re hoping to have around 8 dancers!”
Miles has been a part of dance since she was in eighth grade. She did gymnastics before that for nine years. “I fell in love with dance as soon as I started,” she said.
The senior hopes to continue her dance career in her everyday life.
“I want to take dance and turn it into my everyday routine. Next year I’ll be attending a dance academy where I will get to grow in dance even more,” she explained. “My big overall dream is to one day be able to choreograph and dance for shows, performances and music videos.”
Miles hopes to leave a positive impact on the NDA Dance team and is working diligently to grow the team before she leaves in the fall.
