The Wizard of Oz has been highly honored by the Center Stage High School Musical Theater Program.
Out of 34 schools and 2,000+ students At Notre Dame Academy received the Outstanding Ensemble for the second year in a row.
One person who earned Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role is Caroline Broberg, a senior at Notre Dame Academy who played the Wicked Witch.
“I was so overjoyed and I felt so immensely proud of myself and so, so grateful to all the people who supported and believed in me on the way and that I couldn’t have done any of this without my family and directors,” said Borberg.
Broberg’s inspiration for doing the musical is her mom and dad who have always supported her in her creative endeavors, from singing to sewing.
Her parents have been there for every piano recital and choir event that she was in
“I am eternally grateful for the love they show me every day as a musician, student, and their daughter,” said Broberg.
Another cast member that earned Honorable Mention in a Lead Role was Max Janick, a junior at Notre Dame Academy who played Zeke/Cowardly Lion.
“I was more than happy when I found out I won the award and I couldn’t stop grinning in class because I felt so thankful and joyous that I was given this accolade,” said Janick.
This had been a goal of Janick’s since freshman year when he first attended Centerstage.
His mentor was the other recipient mentioned above because Broberg, he said, had guided him so much in this process, and he could always rely on her for quite literally anything.
Borberg showed Janick what dedication in the arts looks like, and he couldn’t think of a better person to share the stage with.
“My dad mostly inspired me, as he was greatly involved in the arts when he was younger and always pushed me to try everything I could,” said the junior.
“This award is very significant, and I often say it is like winning a state game, because for the ensemble to win this award two years in a row iis a huge honor,” said Andrea Gilson, who directed the shows..
The people in the musical will perform at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center on Saturday, May 16.
The cast will get their award on May 16. Thirty-four schools are part of the Center Stage Program, and seven schools will perform on stage during the Center Stage Showcase.
