Addyson Simpson, NDA senior and Savannah State University softball commit, is making history. She has broken the softball program’s all-time hit record.
Simpson has been a key part of NDA’s lineup since her freshman year. This latest milestone is a reflection of the hard work she has put in over the years.
“Achieving something like this means so much since I have been playing on this team since I was a freshman and seeing my accomplishments in front of me in real time definitely made me happy,” admitted Simpson.
She also shared that she wasn’t completely oblivious to how close she was to breaking the record. Her coach, Mr. Scott Hermes, mentioned it. However, it was not a distraction for Simpson or the rest of the team.
“My coach was talking about it, but it didn’t register until after I hit it,” she said.
Simpson credits her success to not only herself but to those who supported her along her journey to this achievement. Her coaches and teammates have both been there for her.
“My teammates have always cheered me on when I am up to bat. I know that even if I make a mistake, they will keep cheering for me. My coaches have definitely built up my confidence in my swing,” shared Simpson.
Alongside her coaches and teammates, Simpson’s dad has been her mentor throughout her career.
“Every game day morning, my dad comes to the batting cages before work and school just to help me get ready for the game,” she said.
What motivates Simpson every day, even while she is committed to continuing her softball career at Savannah State, is the fact that there is always room to get better and to strive for greatness, as well as the ups and downs that come with success.
“There is no perfect game that can be played because for one person to succeed, another must fail,” Simpson claimed.
Looking forward to the rest of her senior season, Simpson aims to make it past the regional final in the playoffs.
“Each year we have fallen short of a state champion team, but this year I am hoping to get a plaque!” exclaimed Simpson.
