The Cabaret Night juried art show confirmed the show will have new winners next year. 

With different judges than last year the same three students placed first, second and third, a real validation of how talented these three seniors are. 

As art teacher Tina Harpold said, “We work with completely different judges every year to ensure different perspectives and backgrounds.” 

Different judges. . . but the same three winners in the same order as last year.

Evidently Ngoclam Nguyen, first place winner, Julia Mayer, second place winner, and Hank Powell proved themselves the best of the best. 

Judging the art show were Paige Nordstrom, a local professional studio artist who teaches art courses at UW-GB; Adam Fulwiler, a painter and executive director of The Hardy Gallery in Ephraim; and Fr. James Neilson, who holds an MFA in three-dimensional mixed media sculpture and is currently an assistant professor at St. Norbert College.

The first-place winner, according to the judges, was “mature, conceptually driven beyond a high school level and could even hold up with some mid-college level work.  Nguyen entitled her artwork “Through Love’s Eyes.” 

Second-place winner, “Nature’s Armor,” was praised as “ambitious and impressive and creative in both content and concept.”

“Between Blows,” Powell’s third-place winner, sparked the judges to say “the subject is very conceptual” and the student “a great photographer.”
