Freshman Mya Beckett started her high school time off unlike many, adding a new sport on the list of Triton athletics; wrestling.
Beckett has been balancing wrestling and school since the start of her season around September, but she recently added soccer to the mix.
“I have soccer right after school and then I usually go to wrestling right after. It isn’t too hard to balance,” said Beckett. She trains for wrestling six times per week with her coach in Neenah.
Recently, she took sixth place in Nationals for wrestling, in the 15U division.
“I don’t have a set new goal for wrestling,” she explained. “I want to keep improving everyday. I have freestyle state soon,” said the freshman.
Beckett goes to many places around the U.S. to challenge herself as a wrestler. She has been to Washington D.C and many places in Wisconsin with her club team.
“I wanted to get better competition than just Wisconsin. Going out of state and competing at nationals was a great experience and helped me grow so much,” she said..
She is dedicated to continue her wrestling journey like her brother and her dad, who are her biggest inspirations.
“I practice almost everyday and I make sure I’m in a good headspace.”
Many people can agree being a student athlete is hard, but Beckett makes it look easy, balancing the new high school environment, and doing two sports at once.
Although she is the only one on the team for now, she hopes to inspire people to join her in her years to come here at NDA.
