Student Government’s all-school elections included the election of a new FanMan and Mermaid for the upcoming school year.
Juniors Jack Aiker and Brynn Smullen will be the spirit leaders replacing Tommy Chosa and Teya Bordini.
“I am most excited to lead NDA at sporting events and extracurricular activities,” said Smullen.
Smullen wanted to run for Mermaid to bring inclusivity, energy and new traditions to NDA.
“It’s always been a dream of mine, and I just wanted to have fun and make it a memorable year for everyone,” she said.
Smullen is the daughter of an NDA alumnus and the youngest of three NDA graduates.
She, along with Fanman, plans to continue tailgates with free food, sign making, chants, dress down days and fun activities.
She hopes to make games as fun, energetic and engaging as her predecessor did.
“Teya set a great example of what a Mermaid should be,” said Smullen.
She hopes to continue the traditions left behind by Teya and Tommy, as well as add new ones and bring back some old traditions, too.
“I didn’t necessarily prepare for people’s votes, I just did my best to maintain a good attitude toward those around me in my daily life and be a role model,” said Smullen.
The newest Mermaid wants the next year to be something that is remembered for years to come.
