“It’s an absolute feeling of joy,” said Miranda Leisgang, NDA English teacher formerly known as Miranda Sendek.

Leisgang’s dreams of becoming a wife came true  Saturday, September 10, when she married Alex Leisgang at the Carsten Mill venue located in her hometown of Brillion, Wisconsin.

They decided to have the service and reception at one location to make it convenient for all of their guests.

The song for the first dance at the reception was “Crowns and Crows” by Dustin Kensrue. The song had a romantic style, which, Leisgang said, fits her personality.

“I’m a bit of a sappy romantic kind of person,” she told the Journalism I class. The song was pulled from a playlist she made for her husband.

The couple’s love journey started on a dating app called Hinge. After discovering they had shared hobbies and acquaintances, they planned to go on a date on March 15, 2020. However, this was the exact date Covid-19 was shutting everything down.

Leisgang and Alex, who is  from Wrightstown, had to be creative in how they planned dates.

“We played Animal Crossing online,” said Leisgang.

Eventually once state parks opened again, they had their first in-person date at High Cliff State Park on May 6, 2020.  A trip to the Dairy Queen was part of their time together that day.

Some things they share in common are they both are computer nerds. Her husband’s work centers around the computer, and she is currently building a PC. Together they have two dogs, Hufflepuff and Yennefer.

Much of the time they spend together is at coffee shops or dog parks. “We enjoy taking our dogs out together,” the teacher said, “and Alex is a coffee snob.”

They plan on taking their honeymoon during spring break although they haven’t yet decided on a location. Their dream honeymoon would be to travel to Japan, as it’s a tech and anime-focused country.  Arizona or Florida, however, are the more likely choices.  Incidentally, the English teacher is now the adviser for the Anime Club at NDA.

The Leisgangs view each other as equal partners in their marriage. In other words, she explained, they each give 100%.

With the marriage now complete, thoughts of having a family have instilled their way into Leisgang’s mind.

“I am excited to have a family,” she said.
