De-Stress Fest Returns for Third Year on December 7

NDA’s De-Stress Fest, a special event from Student Services to keep students calm during final exams and the holiday season, returns for its third year on December 7 .

“We have some new and returning activities,” commented Ms. Ciera Gerl. “I don’t want to give away too many things, but we will have temporary tattoos, friendship bracelet making and much more! All students are welcome to come to the event during their study halls.”

Along with these activities, the therapy dogs will be returning this year. They have always been a highlight for students.

De-Stress Fest began after Gerl “saw a video on TikTok where a high school did a similar event during their gym classes leading up to final exams.” Gerl brought the idea to Mrs. Beth Abler, and they adapted it to work at NDA.

“The whole Student Services department values taking care of our mental health, and stress rises leading up to final exams, so this event was a perfect way to help students relax a little before exams,” said Gerl.

Gerl and Abler are responsible for planning De-Stress Fest, but Brianna Rockwood also helps with “behind the scenes work by creating documents and infographics for the students and the event.” There are also many other teachers and parents that help during the actual event.

With the upcoming stressful season of final exams, Gerl would like to remind students to have a plan and remain calm.

“Coming up with a plan and schedule of when, where, and how you are going to study for exams is a great place to start. This can help you feel like all the work you have to do is under control, and it will also help you make sure you are studying for every subject,” she said.

Taking plenty of breaks and going outside for fresh air can also be beneficial, according to Gerl.

“We encourage students to make sure they are doing something fun or relaxing every day, even if it’s just for fifteen minutes. Self-care should definitely be a priority during the finals season.”
