Military Service Day Brings Awareness to Students

Military+Service+Day+Brings+Awareness+to+Students

On February 21 NDA invited all branches of the military to speak during advisories, in classrooms and during both lunches.

Counselors Becky Bain and Ciera Gerl organized the event to help students plan for their futures.

“We want to bring awareness to students about the many and varied paths to research when planning for life after NDA,” said Bain.

The goal of the event was to help students make informed choices about their future and to consider all options

“Our efforts were not to recruit; they were to educate,”  she added.

Bain and Gerl work closely with local recruiters when students commit to going to the military after high school and get to know them when they come on visits. They proposed the idea and the military recruiters thought it was great.

The event was successful and was a great way of acknowledging those serving.

“Even if students aren’t interested in joining the military themselves, it was a great learning opportunity and a way for them to learn about the people that protect our country,” said Gerl.

Their planning took several months to get every detail covered. To the faculty members who volunteered their time, staff who worked to promote, and so many other people who made the event possible they are very grateful.

We could not have done it without them,” said Bain.
