Notre Dame Academy will potentially be running a CNA program through Bellin Health next school year for juniors and seniors.
The teacher in charge of this proposed opportunity is Mr. Christian Dory, who, because of his interest in career explorations, thought that adding this option for students would be beneficial.
“I’m excited about the opportunity ahead for each of you,” Dory told students who attended Thursday’s informational meeting about costs and expectations of the class.
“We are working on it! We have lots of interest, but I need 15 students to commit and pay for it to happen,” said Dory. The deadline for paying the first payment of $200 is March 31.
The total cost for the program is $575 plus $138 for the state testing and some additional costs for scrubs.
The CNA program would be run at NDA during eighth hour from the middle of August until November. A Bellin instructor will teach the class, using textbooks and other resources.
On Wednesdays during the program, students will be at the hospital gaining lab work experience to finish their needed hours.
It is a big commitment; however, it is the next step in a career towards health care and is very beneficial to have.
“Im excited for the CNA program because I will get more hands-on job opportunities. I’m super excited for everything I’m going to learn. I just can’t wait to help people,” said sophomore Payton Laviolette.
Many students have shown interest and excitement because of how much exploring and new, exciting training the program will have.
“i’m excited for the CNA program because it is a great stepping stone for many different medical careers,” added sophomore Abby Butterfield.
This class will not give students any NDA credit, as this class will be conducted during eighth hour, typically a free hour for seniors, and a possible study hall for juniors.
“If you are able to commit to this program, and attended the meeting, send in your payment, so NDA can make this happen!” urged one junior.
