Election season is underway at Notre Dame, as many positions need to be filled in place of the graduating seniors.
“I encourage students to run and apply. The more people we have running, the better fit we can get for each position,” said Mrs. Holly Hinch, NDA’s Social Studies and English Teacher who advises the Academy Fans arm of Student Government.
The positions available at this time are Student Body President, Vice President of the Outreach Branch, Vice President of the Senate, Administrative Assistant, all Class Presidents, and finally Fanman and Mermaid.
The application process for all these positions begins with an application whose deadline is Friday, April 10, at 4 p.m. All responses are shared with the student body, so candidates are cautioned to be mindful of their responses.
A signed paper contract must be turned in to Mrs. Jennie Laacksonen by this April deadline as well. The agreement is for students who are running to acknowledge the expectations for a member of the Student Government.
After both of these terms are completed, a required meeting will take place on Monday, April 13, during both 5A and 5B lunch.
Concluding the process, candidates must email their speech to [email protected]. If all these steps were completed on time, candidates should prepare for their speeches.
Speeches for Administrative Assistant, Fanman and Mermaid, Student Body Presidents, Vice President of the Outreach Branch and Vice President of the Senate will take place on Wednesday, April 15.
The speeches for class presidents will be given on Friday, April 17. Candidates for Class President will give their speeches only to their grade.
All speeches can be no longer than two minutes in length.
Hinch advises candidates, “Make sure if you are promising something, you can keep that promise.”
This is an opportunity for students to get involved and become the student body’s voice. Those who are not running for an office position are encouraged to vote for the ideal candidate.
