The next few weeks here at NDA are full of fun senior experiences you don’t want to miss out on!
First off, the Senior Awards ceremony will take place on May 13 in the auditorium.
“The Senior Awards ceremony is one of my favorite parts of saying goodbye to our students,” said Principal Andrea Hearden.
There will be an award going to the “Outstanding Senior,” which is voted on by the senior class, as well as the Exemplary Student Award.
“We have had this award for many years, and every single time I think to myself, ‘Wow, that is the perfect choice,’” said Hearden
Another new scholarship is the W. Randall Payant Scholarship, which is a major financial opportunity for students.
“The best part of the awards is the opportunity to celebrate the entire class and the legacy they leave behind,” said Hearden.
Another event that has been in planning by the parents since October is Senior Send-off.
Senior Send-off is a way to get the class together for the last time before students go in their own directions.
“I have not heard of any other high school that does this, and I think it is a cool event that NDA provides to their students,” said Ms.Eliza Campbell, alumni coordinator in charge of this event.
Campbell gives the power to the parents to plan senior sendoff and create this experience.
Typically there are inflatables, games and prizes to win.
“This senior class overall is a very successful class in multiple parts of high school,” said Campbell. “I think they have given us a lot of memories through their successes.”
She also expressed gratitude for the parents who make this event possible.
Lastly, the senior print (and online) issue of the Tritonian will soon become a project of senior volunteers working with Mrs. Jean Thillman, Mrs. Carolyn Brown and Campbell.
Volunteers will send out a survey to seniors to determine the senior award winners of the categories not covered in the Academic Awards ceremonies.
