Student Government elections took place last week, and the results are in.
Heading up the Executive Board of Student Government next fall will be James Hermes as president of the student body. His opponent, Elijah Weiss, will be senior class president .
“When I was finally congratulated, I felt a sense of amazement and relief,” said Hermes after he found out he had won.
His primary goal for next year is to create a more welcoming environment overall as well as a focus to increase awareness of suicide prevention and mental health.
He plans to focus to increase awareness of suicide and mental health.
‘I plan on listening to all ideas from everybody within the school who proposes them,” promised the new student body leader.
He also wants to increase attendance at all school events.
Hermes was also the junior class president for the recent school year.
“I hope students see their ideas being utilized effectively, an increase in activities around the school, and just an overall better experience for my fellow Tritons,” said Hermes.
Next year’s junior class president is Edward Lagowski, who plans to represent students by asking for their opinions on things they wish to be changed instead of making decisions on his own.
His top goal is to bring back NDA March Madness after not having it this year.
“I hope that NDA continues NDA Madness and makes it a long-lasting tradition,” said Lagowski.
Lagowski was inspired to run because he wants to have a lasting impact on the Notre Dame community.
The sophomore class president is Daniel Quezada, who served as freshman class president last year..
Quezada hopes to have a greater purpose here at NDA and hopes that can start with his role as class president.
“I want to make an impact on the wonderful people I am surrounded by,” said Quezada.
His main goal is to help plan events and activities, as well as being a role model for his peers.
He plans to talk to a variety of people to get a better sense of how to represent his class.
“I’m not asking for everyone to acknowledge what I will do this upcoming year, but I hope I can make everyone’s year here just a little better by the end of my term,” said Quezada.
Class presidents, along with the all-school officers like Hermes and FanMan and Mermaid, comprise the Executive Board of Student Government, the primary group planning and coordinating the multiple activities at NDA.
