One of Notre Dame Academy’s most popular traditions is NDA FanMan and Mermaid. This past week, NDA students voted for next year’s representatives. The new Fanman is Jack Aicher, and the Mermaid is Brynn Smullen.
How this works is everyone running for each position makes a speech to share with the entire student body minus the seniors, who are graduating. The students running are juniors who will be seniors next year.
“A big goal I am hoping to accomplish is carrying over more excitement and crowds from our fall season of sports into winter and spring, so all teams can get the love they deserve from our student section,” Aicher stated.
FanMan is a big role at NDA, and it takes lots of commitment. This past year Tommy Chosa and Teya Bordini did an excellent job showing spirit and bringing great vibes to the cheering section.
Aicher will plan things during the summer to prepare for next school-year.
“As part of the executive board now, I can try to schedule more spirit days and other rewards for people who can consistently show up for our teams,” said Aicher.
School spirit is taken very seriously at NDA. “School spirit means publicly showing your dedication to The Academy and being proud to wear the Triton Crest,” explained Aicher.
In his campaign speech he stated, “”I want to be the fanman of everyone and support all activities here at Notre Dame Academy.”
Many NDA students have said that past spirit leaders have been biased to only the fall sports, and that is a tendency Aicher wants to try and break.
“Whether it’s a football game, boys and girls basketball or even the musical,” said Aicher, “there is nothing I love more than NDA activities.”
Aicher is clearly a proud member of NDA as he said in his speech: “We should all be so proud to call ourselves Tritons and have the privilege and opportunity to come here.”
“I will work with Mermaid over the summer to think of all your ideas and experiences to be even better than they are now,” Aicher explained.
Aicher is passionate to make NDA’s environment a better place and is excited to bring his role to life next school year.
