Every year the freshman class at NDA goes on an all-day retreat on two separate days to Camp Tekakwitha. The retreat is organized through Campus Ministry.
I am in my junior year at Notre Dame Academy this year and decided that I wanted to sign up as a freshman retreat leader.
The freshman retreat this year was set up differently, and instead of just girls and just boys it was combined into all boys and all girls within the two days based on the religion classes/teachers. It was a very big change because my freshman retreat was set up the other way.
Overall I would highly recommend becoming a retreat leader because it is seven hours of service that goes to your service requirement for the year, and it is a very interesting activity to do through the day.
In addition, of course, you get to know the freshmen that just started their first year at Notre Dame Academy.
The day was filled with small-group discussions and an hour of service for the freshmen that included doing service around the camp, such as pulling weeds, cleaning firepits and dusting/sweeping cabins.
The freshmen really enjoyed playing volleyball and basketball during all the free times we had after discussions, lunch and cleaning.
When we got back to NDA, we played games in the baseball field or just walked around and talked.
I would highly recommend filling out a retreat-leader application and taking advantage of this opportunity.
