NDA senior volleyball player and captain Cadence Maxfield announced her commitment on Thursday to play college volleyball at Berry College, a D-III institution in Georgia.

Maxfield, who finished her career as a Triton with over 1,000 assists, was a two-time all-conference recipient, as well as receiving all-state recognition.

Playing competitive volleyball since 5th grade, Maxfield said she didn’t really think about playing at the next level until her sophomore year.

“It wasn’t until this year that I felt like I had the skills to really compete collegiately,” she said. “It finally felt like I was ready to start pursuing the recruiting process.”

Due to COVID-19, the recruiting process was different for many high school athletes. For Maxfield, she played both her junior and senior seasons in one calendar year.

Still, she found a way to find the school that she loved.

“Berry College stood out to me the first time they sent me an email,” Maxfield said. “I looked up the school name on Google and was completely blown away.”

Berry’s campus is the largest United States college campus stretching about 27,000 acres of land. On top of their picturesque environment, they have a stellar volleyball program at the D-III level, being 7-time conference champs, most recently winning this month.

“The players and coaches alone were honestly what drew me in the fastest,” Maxfield explained. “The amount of support and endless respect I have already received from players, parents and my new coaches is crazy. I am so excited and grateful to be a part of such a great new family.”

As her career as a Triton comes to a close, Maxfield recognizes how much she has grown as an individual.

“I have learned how to be such an amazing leader on the court and off the court while being a teammate that people respect, look up to and love,” she said. “I would not be who I am today if not for my experience as a Triton.”
