Recently Notre Dame Academy’s varsity volleyball team hosted the Tom Larson Volleyball Tournament.
Tom Larsen was the head girls volleyball coach from 1992 until 1998 and then again from 2008 until 2013 at Notre Dame Academy.
While he was Notre Dame Academy’s coach, he won seven conference championships and three regional championships.
The tournament carries his name because Coach Larsen is attributed with building the Notre Dame Academy girls volleyball team to what it is today, a competitive team known around the state.
Coaching for over 11 years, he was the 2nd coach in school history and is one of the most successful coaches NDA has ever had.
“Having been at NDA all these years I am one who can testify to all Coach Larsen has meant to the volleyball programs here. I am glad he’s the namesake for such a popular event,” said veteran English teacher Carolyn Brown.
This long-standing tournament has been going on for over 10 years.
The schools who participated in the invitational were Luxemburg-Casco, Kimberly, Mosinee, De Pere, West De Pere, Oostburg, Sheboygan Falls and NDA.
“My favorite part of the Tom Larson Tournament was having the opportunity to play with my teammates and get more practice for our conference games,” said Kailyn Kline, the varsity team captain.
Kline has been playing volleyball since she was in 4th grade and chose volleyball because she loves the aspect of teamwork and the sense of trust players can all build together.
Overall she thought the tournament was enjoyable to create more memories with her teammates and friends and was definitely a learning experience for her and her teammates.
