“We have adapted really well to dealing with all the injuries,” said Ell Lund, a senior on NDA’s volleyball team. The team still has a positive outlook on the season despite having injured players.
Kaia Waldrop and Lydia Moore, two varsity players, are currently out but hope to be back soon. Lund herself recently suffered a concussion during the last match she played in.
“The team has had to switch people around a lot with all the injuries,” Lund explained.
Something positive the girls have noticed is the student support at their games. “We had a decent-sized student section at our DePere match,” said the senior.
The girls were used to a small crowd at their home games last year, but this year the students have upped their presence.
“The sophomore class really stepped it up,” Lund added. She highlighted the uplifting energy they bring to the court.
The team has had a few rocky games, but they came out with a huge win over Arrowhead.
“It was a full circle for the team because we had lost to them freshman year,” said Lund.
The whole team has gained confidence throughout the season by building each other up. Lund described their trip to Iowa and the team’s bonding experience.
The girls had played Imposter, but Moore had written “imposter “on all the pieces of paper.
“The whole trip was a great experience for the team,” Lund went on to say.
The varsity team captains are Carlee Budinger, Kaia Waldrop and Kailyn Kline, all seniors.. Head Coach Chris Fitzgerald and Assistant Coach Molly Rader lead the team.
Their last conference game is Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. against Bay Port. This is one of the team’s most anticipated matches of the season.
This game also falls on Senior Night. With eight of the fifteen players being seniors, it is sure to be a special night.
The team hosts Bay Port at home, so Tritons should fill the stands in support.
