For Notre Dame Academy’s boys varsity soccer captain, Liam West, the love for the game of soccer began at the early age of three. Since then, his skills and passion only grew stronger.
“I first got into soccer when I was around three, I was playing rec soccer for Bethlehem Soccer Club in Albany, New York. I really love playing the game. It’s my favorite thing to do,” shared West.
West’s soccer story is actually an international one. He has lived in both Russia and Turkey.
“I lived in Russia for 10 months and played for a club team called La Liga Academy, I also lived in Turkey for two years, and I played for a club called Ayazağa Esen Spor. During my time there, we won the first championship in the history of the club,” said the captain.
West’s dedication and work has paid off so far in his high school career. West has been named first team all-conference, co-player of the year in the FRCC and an all-state player. West does plan on playing collegiate level soccer following high school.
As the season enters its latter portion, West has his sights on a deep playoff run.
“Our goal in the playoffs this year is to make a deep run in the playoffs and go win state.”
Because West is the captain, he takes his leadership role seriously
“I think I need to be the best leader possible. I try to encourage the guys and bring out the best in them. I also lead by example, showing effort and a positive attitude both on and off the field,” said the senior.
As a captain, he can oversee his team’s chemistry and how their bond has grown over the season.
“I think the bond between the guys this year is great. There is a great connection between everyone on and off the field. This allows us to have lots of fun and really helps our performance,” he said.
Ending on a lighthearted note, West shares his favorite moment of Triton soccer.
“My favorite moment of Triton soccer is when we won the conference championship my sophomore year against De Pere.”
