“I love basketball,” said Mr. Greg Geiser while talking about intramural basketball coming to Notre Dame Academy again.
As an alum, Geiser noted intramural basketball has been an annual NDA event since “at least the second year of the school.”
Intramural basketball is a series of games played on Saturday mornings throughout January and February. Those who play on NDA teams are ineligible for intramural play but are able to referee or serve as scorekeepers.
The first Saturday for games will be January 17, 2026, with three courts in action in the Triton Center.
Geiser has been in charge of the intramural games for nine years and participated in the program while he was a student at NDA.
He was the assistant coach for Green Bay East and Appleton’s Xavier High School basketball teams, which prompted him to take on the role for intramural basketball here.
Students can sign up for intramurals by going to Geiser’s room (109) and forming a team with as few as five people.
The three divisions of play are co-ed competitive, women’s competitive and the fun division.
The competitive division is co-ed, the second division is for girls only, and the fun division has almost no rules—no fouls and just play for fun.
“Freshman teams are pretty rare, but it would be cool to see them,” said the social studies teacher.
Geiser is trying to get the word out to students to sign up and is eager to get the games underway in January.
The cost to join is $20 per person which helps pay the refs and scorekeepers as well as purchase the traditional shirts for the championship winners.
With only 10 teams total, signing up as soon as possible is emphasized.
