Kingston Allen has been named Gatorade’s Wisconsin Football Player of the Year. Not only is this title a great honor, but it is the first time in Notre Dame’s history that a player has received this accolade.
Each year, 610 high school athletes are acclaimed across the nation. The Gatorade Program grants the athlete $1,000 to donate to a youth sports organization of their choice.
For the past 40 years, this program has selected the very best high school athletes in each state. It recognizes these students not only for their performance on the field or court, but also for their academics.
Students are selected through a committee of scouts, coaches, and other representatives. This panel focuses on athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character.
The star running back had a record-breaking 57 touchdowns and 3,436 rushing yards. Combined with his 3.60 GPA, Allen has proven himself worthy of this award.
Allen has also dedicated himself to serving his community by volunteering at Green Bay’s unhoused community. He has also volunteered at Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Warming in the Heart.
Notre Dame’s starting quarterback Max Peirce had a few compliments for Allen.
“Kingston all season has been a great leader both on and off the field. Despite being a junior, everyone looks to him as a leader, and he has done an exceptional job in doing so. I know that he will have a great future in both football and whatever else life gives him.”
Allen himself responded by saying, “This is not a personal accolade but a team accolade. I couldn’t do what I do without my team and coaches.”
The monetary grant of $1000 will “go to my grandmother’s charity that she supports every year,” he explained.
As Allen prepares for his upcoming senior year, his impact will leave a mark on Notre Dame history.
