Liam West, captain of the Notre Dame Academy Soccer team, recently committed to UW-Platteville to play soccer at the Division III level. Academic-wise he is considering either political science or business for a major..
West was the leading scorer in the FRCC conference this year. The NDA soccer team has relied on him as their captain both his junior and senior years.
“I enjoyed the team bond we had, especially my senior year. I also really just loved the opportunity to get to play everyday and compete on game days,” said West.
He has been playing soccer since he was very young, where his dad developed his love for the game.
“I would say my dad is my hero. I really aspire to have his mindset and work ethic. He was also the first person to get me into sports,” said the senior.
West does much off-season training, including weight lifting and running on his own, to keep him ready for the next step.
West has hoped to play at the professional level “since I was five years old, so I’m going to continue to work and attempt to reach my goal.”
Being a leader has helped him to stay determined.
“‘Don’t quit’ is the biggest piece of advice I would give people. There are definitely going to be tough times on the journey, but if you keep going and don’t stop you will end up setting yourself up for success,” said West.
Many players on the soccer team have looked up to West’s leadership and commitment.
The NDA soccer team went 16-5-3 in the 2025 season. West scored 17 goals overall and had seven assists.
With West’s soccer experience, including places around the world like Russia and Turkey, it is very likely West will succeed in college as he continues to play at the next level.
