Senior Stella Starry has committed to playing college softball as a catcher at Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin.
Starry committed to Ripon College because “it had everything I was looking for,” she said. She had been interested in Ripon for a very long time. “From my first visit I felt welcomed,” she added.
“I would like to thank my parents for always believing in me, driving me and showing up. They were my number one supporters in my college journey. I would also like to thank all the coaches who wanted me to play and allowed me to continue my softball career,” said the senior.
Teachers, parents and coaches have really helped Starry to be the best athlete she could be. Her coaches pushed her to be able to play at the next level and did nothing but support her through the process.
Starry will be majoring in sociology and double minoring in criminology and military science. She will also be a part of the ROTC program. She hopes to be in law enforcement or the military and coach her own softball team.
“Through sports, I’ve learned the importance of hard work, perseverance, and teamwork. Softball is a mentally driven game that has taught me to stay focused, confident and calm under pressure,” explained Starry. “My success is thanks to my coaches, teammates, and family who have supported me every step of the way.”
“Outside of softball, keeping my grades up, volunteering, friendships, and having a balance between all have helped me prepare for college,” she continued.
Starry plays a major leadership role on the softball team, as she was a starter on varsity her junior year, and is expected to be again this coming season.
The NDA softball team has a very strong bond, where they all push each other to be the best player they can be.
“The advice I would give to players who want to go on a similar path is to trust the process. There will be many changes and setbacks, but you need to keep moving forward,” she said.
