Senior Addyson Simpson, three time FRCC all-conference softball player, recently signed to continue her academic and athletic career at Savannah State University, a Division II school in Savannah, Georgia.
“It feels exciting to sign with SSU,” Simpson said.
For her, the decision to play for SSU was about more than just softball.
“SSU is the right fit for me because the coaches and players made me feel welcome and as if I belong right along with the team,” she said.
Simpson’s love for softball began in her early years. She started with tee ball at just three years old and moved up to softball when she was six.
Throughout her softball career, her dad remained her biggest influence and supporter.
“My dad has influenced me the most since he always takes me to batting cages or fields to improve my skills,” said the senior. “He used to play baseball, so I’ve always looked up to him.”
Simpson plans to major in biology at SSU as she learns to balance both school and a collegiate sport to achieve her goals.
Graduation is approaching soon in May, and Simpson, who also plays basketball for NDA, claims, “I will miss the core bench from girls basketball.”
“My favorite memory at NDA was during junior year basketball season when I went to the boys’ De Pere game,” she said.
