Notre Dame’s Trap Team hosted an informational meeting on February 23. This was a required meeting for students interested in trap, and a parent or guardian needed to be present.
The turnout was very pleasing, with the entire library being filled with interested students. There were many returning athletes, but a notable number of new faces as well.
The meeting discussed the required safety courses, fees and other frequently asked questions.
All are welcome to join the Trap Team, and no previous experience is required. Students do not need to own their own gun to participate in the club.
The only requirement to participate is to have taken a Wisconsin hunter safety course or a Student Athlete Firearm Education certification.
Registration forms are due by noon on March 23 and should be turned in to Jen Laaksonen, director of activities. All payments should be made out to the NDA Trap Team.
The payments cover the shells, jerseys, range fees and targets. Any additional questions or concerns can be sent to [email protected].
It is essential to note that absolutely no weapons are permitted on campus or stored in vehicles. Safety is the most important aspect of this club, as well as the safety of others.
The first practice of the season is scheduled for March 30 at 6 p.m. Practices will take place at New Franken Sportsmen’s Club every Monday night until late May.
The State Tournament is scheduled for early June. According to advisers, any member can make it to State with the right amount of dedication.
New head coach, Ted Collison, or other parent volunteers will lead the practices. Technique and skill will be developed at practice, but there will be plenty of fun along the way.
