“I love just being able to live out my Christian lifestyle here,” said Allison Schlegel, Notre Dame’s newest math teacher.
Originally born in Minnesota, Schlegel moved to Wisconsin when she was a child. She has two older siblings who happen to be twins as well as a younger sister.
As a child, Schlegel had many pets, including bunnies and chickens. “We would sometimes raise a calf,” she said.
Schlegel graduated from UW River Falls in ‘23, studying secondary mathematics education.
“I enjoyed helping other people and helping them find their Aha moment,” she stated.
Schlegel decided to teach “because it seemed fun.” She had previously taught dance to younger students and enjoyed the time teaching.
In 2024, Schlegel subbed for both private and public schools.
“One day it was three-year-olds, and the next day it was high school gym. You never knew what to expect.”
Schlegel is teaching both algebra and geometry at NDA this year, taking over most of Konshak’s classes.
Before teaching, she was a missionary at Camp Tekakwitha for a year.
“Working at Camp Tek is the most fulfilling but also the most exhausting thing I have ever done,” Schlegel said.
She worked on the summer staff for five years. Just this past school year, she was a missionary at the camp.
Something Schlegel is still getting used to at NDA is “having the chapel here in the building.”
Outside of school, the new math teacher enjoys “hiking and kayaking, and drinking coffee,” and just generally being outdoors. “Except when it’s cold out,” she added.
