This new school year, Notre Dame Academy welcomes in a new face to its counseling department, Mr. Lukas Mounce.
Mounce will be a counselor for students at NDA as well as helping Ms. Becky Bain with college and career counseling and programs. He will also work alongside Mrs. Mattke as her co-adviser.
“My job will have a split between mental health or student and college help,” explained Mounce.
Originally born and raised in Kaukauna, Mounce acquired his bachelor’s degree from UWGB and his master’s degree from Lakeland University.
Although Mounce is new to NDA, he is not new to this role and brings 11 years of experience to the job. Mounce was a school counselor in Little Chute for five and a half years, four years in Marinette and one year in Chilton.
“I wanted to get back into a faith-based educational facility,” said Mounce on why he chose to take a position here at NDA.
Something to be learned about Mounce besides his background and beginnings is he is an avid outdoorsmen. He enjoys fishing and deer hunting most. He is also a lover of golf.
His switch to working with high school students comes from his wanting to see an impact right away on those with whom he works.
“Working with older students lets you see the lasting impact you can make,” explained the counselor.
As an educator, Mounce has a student-first philosophy.
“The needs of the student come first…I’m here to help you figure out what you need to do,” explained Mounce.
In his new role at NDA, Mounce is looking forward to building new relationships with students and creating a welcoming environment, all while also having fun.
“We are already here. We might as well have fun,” he emphasized.
Mounce can be expected to treat students like one of his own. He has a strong belief in finding ways to have fun while dialing in on what’s needed by the student. He also follows the motto, “It only takes one.”
“I’m going to do my best for every single one of you. It’s what you deserve,” said the new counselor.
