“My mother and grandmother were both teachers, so I kind of had a background of teaching,” said Notre Dame’s newest math teacher, Mr. Paul Bucheger.
“They for sure inspired me to become a teacher,” he said. After finishing high school at Greenwood, he headed off to UW-Eau Claire.
At Eau Claire, he studied math and physics for education.
“I enjoyed tutoring students in the math lab, so I thought it would be a good fit for me,” he explained.
Bucheger taught for 34 years at Seymour High School until he retired around four years ago.
Even in his retirement, he continued to sub for various math classes. He would also occasionally tutor kids in physics.
“Correct,” he said after being asked if NDA had brought him out of retirement.
The opportunity arose when NDA was looking for a math teacher to teach Algebra I and II. “That’s what I teach now,” he said.
There was a need for math teachers to take over Mrs. Herbst’s classes this year. And Notre Dame now has all the math classes covered.
Four teachers took over her previous classes, and then Mr. Bucheger arrived to relieve the overbooked teachers.
“Mr. Konshak has been very helpful,” said the newcomer to the department, who has had to learn the in’s and out’s of not only the computer system but also the daily routines of a school’s daily operation.
“All the people have been very welcoming and friendly, the students, teachers, and staff,” said Bucheger. He is very grateful to have the opportunity to teach at Notre Dame.
He explained how he feels everyone at Notre Dame is here for a purpose.
“It seems like everyone is involved and working towards the same goals.”
Bucheger possesses a skill that not many can acquire–juggling. He is involved and a part of Green Bay’s Juggling Club.
“At the juggling club, we practice our juggling skills, learn new skills and meet new people,” the math teacher explained.
“I also enjoy reading and walking my dog,” he said. The dog in question is a tiny Yorkipoo named Henry.
